Residents in Sheraton Park sit with their hands in their hair as they claim not enough is being done to curb crime in their community. They are again calling on the local authorities to step in.

A resident, speaking to People’s Post on condition of anonymity for fear of being victimised, claims that more people have been robbed. She claims that one person was stabbed and later died of his injuries.

She says this incident occurred in Ivory Close last month.

People’s Post previously reported that the concerned residents’ cries to have an open field fenced was “falling on deaf ears” (“Fence off field from robbers”, 12 May).

The resident says she has on many occasions witnessed how people are robbed while crossing the field.

The field is situated between Ivory Close and Zircon Circle.

According to the resident people use it as a shortcut from Capricorn, Coniston Park, Hillview, Seawinds and Lavender Hill.

She says the community continues to call on the council to secure this open space alongside Ivory Close.

“We do not feel safe here and want something more permanent to be done to make the area more secure in future. More police patrols and monitoring of this area will deter criminals from robbing people,” she says.

Captain Stephen Knapp, spokesperson of Muizenberg police station, says the police have received no reports of robbery in the Ivory Close area and are unaware of any persons dying due to injuries sustained in a robbery.

“The Muizenberg police have increased visibility in the vicinity of Steenberg railway station, which is in close proximity to Ivory Close,” Knapp says
