Park hosts parade and concert

Muizenberg park will be the stage for the Muizenberg festival parade concert.

The festival starts on Tuesday 6 October and is a series of musical, dance and theatre performances, interactive workshops, social and environmental talks and arts and crafts. The festival will also have a two-hour parade through Muizenberg on Sunday 11 October. The parade will end at the park and will be followed by a “pay as you can” concert.

The Friends of Muizenberg Park was established last year in a bid to return the park to its previous splendour after years of steady decline, says spokesperson Bronwyn Redding-Jones. The organisation aims to clean the park and boost visits by the community.

The lineup of all-local bands is still to be confirmed, but the concert will run from 14:00 to 16:00. Food vendors will be on site and there will be a picnic area.

And safety will be key on the day, with law enforcement, local security and neighbourhood watch members on site. “We want to show people there is this wonderful place. So many people are not even aware the park is there. We want to have a positive presence in the park instead of criminal activity,” she says
