Large crowds gathered barley minuets after a young man had been shot and killed in a lane off AZ Berman Drive.

At 14:55 shots were heard and neighbours found the man’s body. He had been shot and was declared dead on the scene; his uncovered body lay for all to see.

Police and forensics attended the incident.

One child, no older than 10, could be heard saying: “It’s ok, one gets killed and ten get born in his place.”

The 27-year-old is believed to be on parole and has been out of prison for at least a year.

The nature of his prior conviction is not clear at this stage.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Jerome Voegt says officers arrives at the scene at 15:00. “Police received a complaint of a shooting in Daphne street, Eastridge. On arrival police found a 31-year-old man had been shot.”

The victim sustained gunshots to the left side of his head and under his arm.

“It is alleged that the victim was walking from AZ Berman Drive towards Daphne Street when an unknown amount of assailants shot at him. The victim passed away on the scene,” Voegt says.

At this stage no arrests have been made and it is unclear what the motive for the shooting was.

A murder case is open for investigation.
