The Mitchell’s Plain police have arrested several people during crime prevention operations in the past week.

Three firearms were also confiscated during these operations.

The positive relationship between the Mitchell’s Plain police and community structures continues to yield successes as the police intensify their focus on gangsterism and drugs, says police spokesperson Constable Zandile Marashula.

Officers were on a routine patrols when they spotted a suspicious man walking in Smidt Street, Westridge on Thursday last week at 17:40, he says.

The officers searched the man and found a Tauris firearm in his possession.

On Wednesday night last week the police were on a routine patrol when they received a tip-off that a firearm was being kept at a house in Hockey Street, Beacon Valley.

The officers searched the suspected house and found a twin-barrel shotgun. As a result, a 30-year-old man was arrested.

It was later discovered that the firearm had been reported stolen at Durbanville police station.

On Monday last week at 01:15 the police received information about a man carrying a firearm in Buffalo Street, Eastridge.

They confiscated a 9mm firearm from the 35-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

All the suspects have appeared in court
