2015-04-30 14:45

Three men were arrested for the illegal possession of guns and ammunition on Friday.

At about 04:50 the Mitchell’s Plain police were doing patrols when they received information that firearms were being stored at a house in Botha Street, Eastridge, confirms spokesperson Constable Zandile Marashula.

“On arrival at the house the police conducted a search and recovered three firearms. A 9mm Parabellum, Nicro Model PPN 380 callibre and a Nicro firearm, with ammunition and four mandrax tablets,” she says.

Three men – aged between 24 and 43 years – were arrested on charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs.

The suspects will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court soon.

Court burglaryIn an unrelated matter, security guards at the court building were busy doing rounds on Monday last week at 18:30 when they noticed a forced entry in the burglar bars.

“On further investigation they noticed that computer items were stolen to the total value of R7000,” Marashula says.

At this stage four suspects have been brought in for questioning. No arrests have been made. A case of burglary has been opened for further investigation.

Anyone with more information on the burglary is urged to call investigating officer Detective Constable Riaan Potgieter on 073 146 9154
