A 30-year-old man was arrested with a pistol in Hanover Park on Monday last week.

Police were patrolling the streets of Hanover Park around 17:25, when they spotted a suspicious looking male. When he noticed the police he started to run away from them, but the police gave chase and caught him as he was about to jump over a fence of a dwelling in Turburg Walk. Upon searching the suspect police found a 9mm CZ 75 pistol and crushed mandrax. The serial number of the pistol had been filed off.

The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and the possession of drugs
