Roadworks started to upgrade Sea Point beach front

2015-05-05 07:13

A R4m road upgrade started on Beach Road yesterday.

The maintenance will see the road surface replaced on the westbound carriageway between Helen Suzman Boulevard and Worcester Road, says Brett Herron, mayoral committee member for transport.

“This project cannot be delayed any further. The longer we wait the more the City of Cape Town will have to spend on the necessary maintenance and the worse the inconvenience will become to road users and local residents,” he says.

The work will start on Three Anchor Bay’s side and is expected to be concluded in mid-June.

“The roadworks will be undertaken between 08:00 and 16:00 on weekdays in an effort to avoid the peak-hour periods as far as possible,” Herron says.

Eastbound traffic will not be affected as the works are taking place on the westbound carriageway only. “This will assist in limiting the traffic congestion, but residents should nevertheless please try to avoid this area as far as possible,” Herron says.

The roadworks will be done in sections and one lane will be open for traffic at all times.

Kerbside parking will not be permitted during the day along the sections where the roadworks are taking place
