Sentence handed down to Manenberg dealer

A Manenberg resident was handed a three year suspended sentence and a fine on drug-related charges at the Athlone regional court on Tuesday 18 August.

Deon Isaacs and his wife were arrested at his address at 40 Greatfish Avenue in Manenberg for the possession of mandrax.

Sergeant Dumisani Ngcame was the arresting officer and seized 123 mandrax tablets hidden in a cupboard. Despite arresting both Isaacs and his wife, the 43-year-old took sole responsibility and was charged alone. He was found guilty of possession of mandrax and fined R30 000, with the judge handing down a three year suspended sentence. “This is definitely a success against the war on substance abuse and drug dealing,” says Lieutenant Ian Bennett, Manenberg police’s spokesperson.
