Setting the record straight

2015-07-21 06:00

To set the record straight with regards to the article titled, “CPF Chair Ousted”, published on 16 June in which the People’s Post had reported the Lansdowne Community Police Forum (CPF) as being a “failed structure”. This is in fact not the case and far from the truth.

Not only is there no justification for this incorrect reporting there is also no factual basis for these claims. At no point, regardless of the internal challenges in the CPF has the CPF and sitting executive committee members failed in their mandate to serve their community. All individuals who avail themselves to serve their community do so voluntarily and with the best interest of the community at heart. Their sacrifices should not at any point be underestimated and undermined. I hope that in future this publication will use extreme caution in reporting on community organisations and do so on a factual basis.

The term “failed structure” was used in reference to a previous article in which People’s Post reported on a special re-election of the CPF’s management structure following the resignation of multiple members. People’s Post never implied that the committee had failed in their mandate to serve the community. – Ed
