The Athlone police greeted residents of Kewtown with a warm surprise on Wednesday last week when they handed out soup and bread to the community to help them endure a cold and wet winter’s night.

Sergeant Zita Norman encouraged the youth to avoid drugs and gangsterism and said that help was available to those who were already experiencing trouble.

The initiative, to be carried out every Wednesday, forms part of the Athlone police’s outreach programme used to battle social crime
