Steenberg Golf Estate’s Luke Woods became the final junior golfer from the Western Cape to secure his place in the national final of the Glacier junior series with his victory at Royal Cape Golf Club on Sunday.

Woods won the A division of the Sally Little tournament on the popular nationwide junior golf series when he defeated Bredasdorp’s Clinton Jansen on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff. Both golfers finished regulation play with rounds of 74.

Hilmi Mallick from the South African Golf Development Board’s Western Cape chapter took third place with a round of 75.

This was a timely victory for Woods as it was the last event in the region. Following Sunday’s tournament, the series travels to the Ebotse Links and then Zwartkop Country Club in Gauteng, followed by the final event at Humewood in the Eastern Cape.

The national final will then be played at Vaal de Grace in October, featuring the A division winners from all of the tournaments.
