Tea time reserved

2015-05-05 06:00

The proposal to use a facility at the Rondevlei Nature Reserve as a tea room has been approved.

This decision came at the South Peninsula Subcouncil meeting on Monday 16 March.

The nature reserve will now use a vacant facility on the property as a tea and function room.

The facility was vacant for some time. It was previously used as a tea room but was no longer being used for that purpose.

In a report, it states that the Friends of Zeekoevlei and the False Bay Nature Reserve have gone about a management agreement to “further the relationship between the parties by enabling the Friends of Zeekoevlei to operate the tea and function room”.

“This will increase the utilisation of the nature reserve and supports local economic development,” the report states.

The Friends of Zeekoevlei will be using the facility to provide a tea room service for visitors to the Rondevlei section of the False Bay Nature Reserve.

“The facility will be used for the purpose of hosting events and beverages to be sold at the facility during agreed hours,”continues the report.

“The Friends of Zeekoevlei will also be responsible for the provision of food and beverages to be sold at the facility as well as other aspects relating to the operation of the tea room and the events or functions that may be held there.”

The Friends of Zeekoevlei will also not be financially implied for the use of the facility “provided they are an NPO whose constitution is aimed at supporting the False Bay Nature Reserve”.

According to the Friends of Zeekoevlei, the tea room operation is striving to be as environmentally responsible as possible, is intending to minimise the use of packaging and use biodegradable packaging, where possible
