The Diep River police precinct reported that it experienced an increase in petty crimes the past week.
Over the past weekend 24 cases were reported, of which 13 cases were for theft.
Warrant officer Keith Chandler, spokesperson of the Diep River police station, says bicycles remain a target for thieves, but with the help of railway police an arrest was made and a bicycle worth R14 000 was recovered.
“Residents are encouraged to alarm their garages and put sturdier padlocks on the doors as this is our second biggest target, breaking into garages particularly in complexes or flats,” he says.
Chandler thanks the local neighbourhood watch members for their continued help on the cold nights and early mornings
