Three arrested for carjacking

Three men have been arrested after the trio were linked to a carjacking in Lansdowne.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday at 22:45 while police members were conducting patrols on the corner of Jan Smuts and Kromboom roads, says Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka.

“They spotted a white Audi towed by a blue Toyota. Members got suspicious and stopped the car and checked – the Audi came out as carjacked in a Lansdowne case,” he says.

Mnyaka says the suspects, aged 23, 33 and 38, are from Vygieskraal, Athlone.

“The stolen car was booked in and taken to Bellville South for fingerprints. The Audi was carjacked on Tuesday 22 September at 00:15 in Muller Road, Wetton by two unknown men. The complainant explained the two came running to his vehicle, one with a firearm and said: ‘Jy, jou vark, klim uit’ (You pig, get out). The complainant climbed out and the suspects searched him and took his cellphone. They then drove off with his car in the direction of Aylesbury Place in Wetton,” Mnyaka says.

In another incident on Sunday at 21:30, Mnyaka says a 31-year-old woman was robbed of her silver BMW.

“The incident occurred at Taronga Road in Crawford. The victim explained that she was at a stop sign when she was approached by two unknown men who were both armed,” Mnyaka says.

The woman was ordered to get out of her car, he adds, and moments later one of the suspects opened the door and pulled the woman out. The suspects drove off in an unknown direction.

A case of carjacking was opened for investigation. No shots were fired and the woman was not harmed. No arrests have been made.

Mnyaka urges anyone with information to contact Lansdowne police on 021 700 9000 or 082 576 2804
