Police have successfully secured sentencing for three men in connection with a 2013 murder.

On Thursday 19 March 2013 at 21:50 Mitchell’s Plain police responded to a complaint where four Pakistani men were killed and another two injured. It was alleged that a man had come into the house, opened fire and demanded the safe be opened.

The suspects then opened fire on the victims, killing four and wounding two others.

The investigation was combined with a Lansdowne case where a man and woman were hijacked and kidnapped.

The man was later set free while the woman was held. She later managed to escape from the vehicle.

The suspects shot at her and wounded her before she managed to get away.

On Wednesday 16 September the Cape Town High Court sentenced the three accused in the case, Lehano Jansen (31), Nasief De Villiers (37) and Yazeed Hendricks (44).

Jansen was found guilty and sentenced to four life sentences plus 29 years – a total of 159 years – on 14 charges including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

De Villiers was found guilty of robbery relating to the hijacked vehicle and sentenced to 18 years.

Hendricks was found guilty and sentenced to four life sentences plus 20 years – a total of 120 years – on seven charges including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The investigation officer, Detective Sergeant Errol Bedford of the Mitchell’s Plain Police Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Group and the team of detectives were commended for excellent investigative work.
