Tips to help safeguard against robberies

2015-09-01 06:00

Mitchell’s Plain police are concerned with the increases in street robberies in the precinct.

As a result, the police precinct office has released preventative tips for the public to minimise the possibility of becoming a victim of robbery.

. Always be aware of your surroundings.

. Don’t display cellphones or jewellery in public.

. Do not carry large sums of cash.

. Avoid shortcuts over fields and deserted places. Rather leave home earlier and take safer routes, such as busy routes and well-lit walk ways.

. Try to walk in a group.

. Walk against traffic so that cars cannot approach you from behind without you being aware of them.

. Join your local community structures such as neighbourhood watches and street committee to actively help safeguard your area.
