The Steenberg police are investigating the deaths of two men who were shot and killed in two separate incidents in Lavender Hill.

Police received a complaint of shooting in Military Road, Steenberg on Wednesday last week at about 20:00, says Constable Zodwa Kedama, spokesperson of the Steenberg police.

“On arrival police discovered a man lying face down on the ground. The victim, a 19-year-old man from Lavender Hill, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body,” Kedama says.

Kedama says the motive for the murder is allegedly gang-related. No arrest has been made in this case as yet.

Kedama says in the second shooting, which occurred only an hour later, police found the body of a man in a house in St Christopher Street.

“The man had a gunshot wound to the chest and was found lying on the floor in the house,” she says.

Kedama says it is alleged that someone knocked on the door, the deceased opened, went outside and approached the unknown assailant.

“The deceased had a conversation with this unknown person outside and several gunshots were fired at the deceased,” she says.

Kedama further says that the victim is a 30-year-old man.

“The deceased then ran into the house after he was shot. He was bleeding and collapsed on the floor,” she says.

Kedama says the victim was declared dead on the scene by the paramedics.

No arrest has been made as yet.

The police urge anyone with information on either incident to come forward or to make contact with the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Mark Lucan at Steenberg police station on 021 702 9000
