Two men, aged 18 and 42 years old, were last weekend arrested for the illegal possession of firearms.

On Friday at 16:00 the Mitchell’s Plain police were on routine patrols in Boekenhout Street, Eastridge, says spokesperson Constable Zandile Marashula.

“The members stopped and searched a suspicious man that was walking in their direction. The members then searched the man and found a .38 Special Taurus [revolver] with ammunition,” she says.

An 18-year-old man was then arrested and charged with possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

On Sunday at 07:20 the officers were on patrol when they received information of a man carrying a firearm in Lemoenshoek Street, Tafelsig, threatening residents.

“The police followed up on the information and searched a man that fit the description,” says Marashula.

The officers recovered a Nicro Star firearm with ammunition. The 42-year-old man was arrested on charges of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition
