Two ‘robbers’ arrested

2015-06-30 06:00

Two suspects were arrested and a stolen car was recovered last week.

Thorough investigative work led to the arrest of two men, both aged 22 years, on Friday 19 June after police officers received a tip-off about their whereabouts in Rocklands and Tafelsig.

It is alleged that the two men committed a house robbery in Arabian Street, Rocklands on Thursday 28 May at 07:55.

The suspects entered a 63-year-old man’s house and tied him up.

They took a safe, a 9mm Star pistol, audiovisual equipment, R3600 in cash, tools and personal items.

One of the suspects was arrested after officers traced him to a house in Southern Cross Street, Rocklands.

The other suspect was also wanted for an attempted business robbery and was arrested in the same tracing operation at a house in Matopos Street, Tafelsig.

It is alleged that on Monday 15 June the suspect attempted to rob a house shop in Snowden Street, Tafelsig.

The suspect had fled the scene on foot.

In an unrelated matter, three off-duty Mitchell’s Plain detectives, Lieutenant Dudley Truter and Constables Monolitho Haywood and Welcome Nkenke, recovered a Mazda 323 sedan that was hijacked earlier this month.

The officers were on their way home when they spotted the car in Katdoring Street, Eastridge.

A high-speed chase ensued through the streets of Eastridge and Rocklands. They cornered the suspects in Ruby Street, Rocklands where the suspects abandoned the car.

The investigation continues and no arrests have been made. V
