West Sider brain dead

An alleged gang member has been shot and critically injured in a shootout in Heide-veld on Tuesday.

It is alleged that the victim, a known member of the West Siders gang, was cornered by three men from a rival gang outside a local store where he was shot in the head.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson, Lt. Ian Bennett, the reason for the shooting remains unknown. Bennett also confirmed that the victim is still alive and has since been taken to Groote Schuur hospital. However medical staff have declared the man brain dead.

No arrests have been made and a case of attempted murder has been opened.
