Westridge Library now plays host to a revamped and fully fitted teen area thanks to ward allocation funding.

Ward 78 councillor, Eddie Andrews, officially launched the Teen Zone on Thursday, accompanied by Mayco member (South) Zahid Badroodien.

The area is right at the entrance to the library and provides for specialised books with comfortable seating and an area with barstools and tables.

Residents were invited to the event to celebrate its official launch.

Andrews encouraged the youngsters to make use of the space and make it their own. He added that this was a special initiative aside from all the other recent upgrades to the library, such as air-conditioning, provided through ward allocation.

He further encouraged them to make a success of their lives, no matter their definition of success, and to use the space to help them achieve their goals.

Badroodien agreed with Andrews and jokingly also encouraged the teens to make the space “cool” by using it for dates.

There was also entertainment from Toddler’s Daycare and remarks from Winston Smith of the local seniors’ club.

Members of the Page Turners Teen Book Club were also at the launch. The club meets every second Friday and previously made use of the hall attached to the library.

They said they are thankful for the investment in the library, saying they would now make use of the space when they meet.
