Iziko Museums of South Africa’s In_Herit Festival commemorated significant milestones in our journey to democracy during Heritage Week (Monday 19 to Sunday 25 September) with not only free entry to all 11 of their museums, but also an exciting and fun filled programme for Heritage Day.

Visitors were spoilt for choice as activities included exhibition openings, guided tours, talks, traditional and contemporary dance performances, live animal displays, and even a fashion show.

The Company’s Garden precinct was a hub of family fun as museum-goers dashed between Iziko South African Museum which had live animal displays, traditional dance performances, drumming and a fossil preparation workshop, and mural painting with Museum Teen Summit Africa at Iziko South African National Gallery. Jazz, dance, drumming, walking tours and talks took over the Iziko Slave Lodge, as Fatima Sydow explored authentic Cape Malay cooking and cake decorating demonstrations at Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum. Down at the Constantia winelands, Iziko Groot Constantia’s Heritage Day fashion show ignited 18th century dialogue with contemporary South African fashion.
