The restaurant was such a success that he was approached by the then Southern Sun hotel group to open restaurants in its hotels. Kanakia was soon approached by shopping centres too and his eateries spread to Johannesburg and Cape Town.Being a self-confessed foodie, Kanakia’s latest offering focuses on multicultural, fine-dining cuisine. The restaurant’s team selected well-loved dishes from Italian, Indian, Chinese and South African cuisines and built a menu that promises something for the whole family. Each of these cultures has a chef dedicated to preparing its food, ensuring only the best quality food, says Kanakia. The menu boasts, among others, butter chicken and naan bread, crispy Peking duck, fresh Italian pasta, local steaks and Durban’s famous bunny chow – all created with fresh, seasonal ingredients and creatively reinvented by My Favor8’s chefs.“Our carefully curated, globally influenced menu is testament to our travels and to our exacting standards which we have honed over the last 20 years as restaurateurs. We offer the best Italian, Indian, Chinese and local favourites, as we believe variety is the spice of life,” he says. The on-trend setting is the perfect place for people watching while retreating from the hustle and bustle of town, with opulent décor in the grand formal dining area and spacious cocktail lounge. These flow onto a terrace for al fresco relaxation. V My Favor8 is currently running a four-course lunch special, valued at over R200, for R85.
