ForwardFund Academy opened its doors at Solaris Business Park with a full house last Tuesday.

Over 150 guests, as well as 25 students who received scholarships to study Film and Media Studies at the academy, were there for the launch.

The academy launched with the introduction of a SAQA-accredited National Certificate in Film and Television Production.

ForwardFund Academy partnered up with Bryony Roughton, owner of SAY ME (South African Youth Media Education), to present an amazing one-year course in film and television studies. This National Certificate affords previously disadvantaged students the opportunity to learn film and television skills and to acquire the necessary knowledge to freelance and work within the film and television industry upon graduation.

Tina Thiart, ForwardFund director and founder, has envisaged the academy playing a major role in developing women-owned small businesses and said the academy will be providing more training to local communities. Business Studies will be incorporated into the syllabus later this year and the academy will form a central WiFi hub where local residents can come in and update or create their CVs in order to find job opportunities.
