The accused in the murder of 13-year-old Rene Roman has abandoned his bail application today 25 April at Wynberg Magistrate's court.

He is accused of killing Roman from Lavender Hill. Roman was found 11 days after she went missing.

Lucinda Evans from Philisa Abafazi Bethu says having the accused not apply for bail is a success for them.

"This is only the beginning. We just want to hear no bail. We are happy that he is not getting bail. If he gets bail, how safe will our children be? He must stay and rot in jail where he belongs."

The case was postponed to 23 June for further investigation.

Following the death of Roman, a search group in her name had been formed to act immediately should a child go missing.
