Affordable mental health care

2019-03-26 06:00

With South Africa having a high and rising rate of mental health disorders, a new Woodstock-based institution which focuses on affordable mental health has opened its doors to members of the community.

Situated in Francis Street, the Counselling Hub offers low-cost mental health services in order to increase access for people living and working in the surrounding communities.

The centre offers one-on-one sessions with qualified professionals at R50, as well as free group workshops which allow people with low income to seek professional support where necessary.

Almost 80% of the country’s psychologists work in the private sector, yet it is often said that the need for quality mental health services is widespread and intense in low income communities where high rate of poverty and unemployment, crime and violence, among others, take an immense toll on people’s mental well-being.V For more information call 021 462 3902.
