In observing Women’s Month, Mitchell’s Plain police, in partnership with City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, held an all-women roadblock in AZ Berman Drive on Thursday 17 August from 10:00 to 14:00.

The aim was to address crimes such as street robberies and traffic violations and curb the transportation of illegal items such as drugs and firearms in the area, and also to create awareness of crimes against women and children.

During the roadblock 314 vehicles were checked, 58 traffic fines were issued with a total value of R62 800 and more than 150 pamphlets were distributed.

The officers had the opportunity to engage with the community to talk about issues, but also to keep them safe. The operation was part of a national and provincial initiative.
