Another gang member was shot dead in Factreton yesterday evening (Sunday 23 July).

The 26-year-old man was reportedly shot by an unknown gang member at a tavern in Lysander Street. He died on the scene.

Factreton police spokesman, Sergeant David Stemmet says a murder case was opened at 17:30 and the case is being investigated. He says the shooting was gang related but the reason for the shooting cannot be confirmed.

This incident brings the number of gang related fatal shootings to three since early in June. It happened in just an hour after the community held a solidarity march against gang violence and shortage of police resources in the community.

Organisers of the march say their effort to end the ongoing violence will not be deterred by the recent incident. CPF secretary, Cheslyn Steenberg says: “I can confirm a man was shot and killed at a known liquor establishment in Lysander. We will not be deterred by this incident. It simple reaffirms our call for more police resources and visibility from the Kensington police station.”
