According to figures released in the latest progressive capital expenditure report for subcouncil 17, another R400 000 will be spent in ward 49 over the next few months.

The funds have been allocated to two outstanding projects planned for the ward.

Ward councillor for the area Rashid Adams says that work is already underway on both projects, which include the landscaping and upkeep of Bhunga Avenue and the installation of embayment parking, particularly in front of Silverlea Primary School.

“In terms of our progressive capital expenditure, to date, there are just two projects outstanding: The one being the Bhunga Avenue landscaping, which is going to be a continuous project going into the next financial year as well. The contractor has been on site and they have started work.

“We have received confirmation that the full R100 000 will be committed to that project. We expect work to be done by end of June or early July at the latest,” says Adams.

The other project, for which R337 000 has been allocated, is the construction of embayment parking.

“With that project we have received confirmation from the project manager that the job should be finished by the end of June.

“As we speak, they are currently busy working on the site.”

Adams expects the projects to be completed on time. “I have done a check to see that they are working there and I trust that, looking at the type of work that needs to be done and the labour involved, they will be able to complete the job in time.

“I sincerely hope that there won’t be any further hiccups and once those two jobs are complete, we would probably have spent 100% of the total budget.

This will bring the total in line to just over R600 000 which has been allocated for progressive capital expenditure.”
