Arrest for gang violence

Police have arrested two men following the murder of a Westridge man.

On Tuesday 10 May at about 04:00 police responded to a shooting at a house in Harvester Street, Westridge.

It is alleged the suspect entered the house looking for the victim.

The suspect then tried to shoot him, but the firearm initially jammed.

A struggle ensued to wrestle the firearm from the suspect, but the suspect still managed to shoot the man.

The 21-year-old man was shot in the right side of his chest and was declared dead on the scene.

Good investigation by the Serious and Violent Crime Unit led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 34 and 30.

The first suspect was found in possession of a firearm and faces an additional charge.

A .38 special Taurus was recovered. The incident is believed to be gang related. Drug busts

From Friday 6 May to Thursday 12 May, police searched 64 houses for drugs during various operations in the police precinct.

This resulted in 77 arrests and various quantities of drugs confiscated.

Police seized 5g of heroin, 334g tik, 19.5 mandrax tablets and 109g of dagga.

There were seven tracing operations which resulted in the arrest of 63 wanted suspects.

Second-hand goods premises were also visited and one shebeen operation was held.

A total of 51 cases of crimes against women and children were also attended to, which resulted in 14 arrests.
