Two men were arrested in Milnerton on Thursday for crimes that led officers to a case which is under investigation in Heideveld. According to Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, the two men were arrested by the Milnerton cluster tracing team while they were executing arrest warrants.

One of the arrest warrants took them to Zuurberg Road in Heideveld.

“As they knocked on the door in search of a suspect, a man opened the door. As they identified themselves the man quickly turned and walked towards the bedroom. Officers followed him and on entering the room they saw a 9mm pistol lying next to the bed. The 9mm pistol, with 15 rounds loaded in the magazine, had its serial number still attached. It has not been reported stolen and the owner could face serious charges as this is deemed a serious offence,” says Bennett.

The room was then searched and several other calibres of ammunition were also recovered, including 36 9mm short rounds, 14 7.65 rounds, 10 .38 special rounds and five unidentified calibre rounds.

The 29-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed and illegal firearm and ammunition.

On further investigation and inquiry a warrant of arrest was also executed and a 32-year-old man was arrested in Heideveld Road. “Killing two birds with one stone as the saying goes. Both men will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (today) on their respective charges. Good work was done by members of the Milnerton cluster tracing team in their cross-border operation,” concludes Bennett.
