Officers attached to the Mitchell’s Plain crime prevention unit arrested a 24-year-old man on Tuesday 29 October during patrols in town centre.

Officers received information from residents that a large quantity of dagga was being stored at a shop in Rondo Lane.

Officers searched the premises and found 1.3kg of compressed dagga in two plastic bags in the ceiling. The dagga has an estimated street value of R10 000.

In an unrelated incident, officers arrested a 61-year-old man in White Hall Street, Portlands for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

At 17:20 on Monday 28 October, the officers received an anonymous tip-off about the firearms being kept at the house. During the search, officers found a CZ 75 and a Glock with 28 rounds of live ammunition inside a bedroom.

Police spokesperson Cpt Ian Williams said their crime prevention efforts are focused on drugs.

“We will leave no stone unturned to rid our community of elements who try and commit crime.”
