Police are investigating the murder of 41-year-old Bradley Fredericks after his body was found on Sunday 22 July.

Following initial investigations, three men were arrested in connection with the murder and have appeared in court.

Police opened the murder case after the body was found buried in a shallow grave in the bush behind Princeton High School.

“A case of murder has been opened for investigation subsequent to the discovery of a body of an unidentified man that was found in a shallow grave in Woodlands on Sunday. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and police detectives are following up on all possible leads,” says provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.

The body was then later identified as Fredericks from Woodlands who had gone missing earlier this month.

Fredericks was last seen heading to Sassa on the morning of Monday 9 July and was officially reported missing on Friday 20 July. A search party was then initiated by Lentegeur Community Policing Forum (CPF) deputy chairperson Kaamillah Ismail. Several residents assisted in the search. “The body was found by the volunteers, which included residents and parishioners from the Anglican church,” says CPF spokesperson Anthea van der Vent.

“He was well known to the community and also well known to the Anglican parish of Woodlands. Bradley was not a gangster at all and was a former Navy Seal. His death has come as a big shock to his family and many of the broader community.”

As the circumstances around his death are still under investigation, it is unclear how long he had been buried and it is believed he had been strangled to death.

His family declined an interview at this stage.

“As the CPF, we would like to thank all the residents for their proactiveness in helping us find Bradley,” says Van der Vent.
