ATM bomb suspects still at large

Police are on the hunt for six suspects involved in an ATM bombing and business robbery on Sunday evening.

Grassy Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the incident occurred at about 21:50 on Sunday on the corners of Klip and Victoria roads.

“According to the complainant, two men entered the shop with firearms and instructed staff to lay down while the other four suspects entered the shop. They forced them to a room at the back of the shop and closed it,” she says.

Kleinsmith says one of the suspects guarded the door where staff were locked behind while another went to the ATM. She says staff then heard a loud bang.

“After a while when they heard it was quiet they came out to discover the ATM was bombed and the cash register was empty. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken both from the ATM as well as the cash register,” she says.

The suspects –who were all armed – fled the scene in a white bakkie.

No shots were fired and no arrests have yet been made.
