Attempted murder up in Lansdowne

The crime statistics of Lansdowne for the year from April last year to March this year were released last week.

Contact crimes (against a person) in Lansdowne by 4%. This category includes murder, attempted murder, sexual offences, common assault, assault with the intention to do grievance bodily harm and robbery with aggravating circumstances. A total of 617 cases for contact crimes were dealt with for the year.

Attempted murders specifically increased 50% in the past year.

Sexual offences, which includes rape, attempted sexual assault and contact sexual offences, decreased 13% in the area. Sexual offences decreased by a case between the two periods. A total of 27 sexual offences were dealt with the past year.

Subcategories of aggravated robbery decreased 3%. This includes carjacking and robberies at non-residential premises.

House robberies increased 36%.

There were no cases of truck hijacking, cash-in-transit heists or bank robberies.

A total of 194 contact-related crimes were reported the past year. Cases of malicious damage to property stayed the same.

Property-related crimes decreased 17% to 993 cases. This includes burglary at residential and non-residential premises, car theft and theft out of cars. There were no stock-related cases.

Other serious crimes, which include shop lifting, decreased 10% to 923 cases.

Commercial crime increased 3%.

Cases of crime detected as a result of police action increased 9% in the past year to 631 cases.

This increase includes drug-related crimes and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Sexual offences detected as a result of police action and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition decreased in the past year.
