Following a highly successful softball tour of Cape Town in June where students from various colleges in the USA took part, one of the colleges will be returning on their own to do it all again.

The students and coaches will partake in clinics and matches. The short tour will be presented by the Augustana College of Illinois at the end of December into the beginning of January.

The previous tour, organised by Beyond Sports, saw more than 80 college students grace our beautiful city. The four groups played various matches and also used the opportunity to learn about the city and country. Many friendships were formed.

One of the students and coaches, Bridgette Quimpo, was thoroughly impressed after the June tour.

“It’s good to be home, but South Africa, you’ve been awesome. There are no words or pictures to describe your beautiful country. The love and warmth of your people are indescribable. It was worth playing since I was five years old for this experience,” said Quimpo.

The Augustana College tour starts with a clinic for players aged 10-14 years old on 30 December. Another clinic is scheduled for 5 January for players aged 15-20 years old. The clinics will be conducted by the coaches and players of the College.

All youth players (club and/or school) are encouraged to attend the clinics. Coaches are also encouraged to attend the clinics and matches to observe coaching techniques and training drills.

Three days of matches have been arranged with selected opponents. These matches take place on 3, 4 and 5 January at the Turfhall Softball Stadium starting at 19:00.

Entry to the venue is free.

It is also planned to send coaches and players to the USA as part of the capacity building initiatives agreed upon between Beyond Sports and the Cape Town Softball Association.
