The Cape of Good Hope SPCA employees were shocked on Monday morning (21 August) to discover five of their SPCA vehicles, three mobile clinics, the charity shop collection vehicle and education vehicle were vandalised.

Belinda Abraham, communications, resource development and education manager, says the thieves specifically targeted their Nissan NP300 vehicles, opened the bonnets and removed the batteries, as well as a spare tyre from one of the mobile clinics.

“They also broke into the office of our Horse Care Unit and stole computer hardware and other goods. The thieves were interrupted by a security guard on patrol who gave chase when they fled.”

Abraham says the thieves left two batteries and a spare tyre behind, which were recovered close to the exit.

“The police have already been to the premises and a case has been opened at the Grassy Park Police Station.

“As a result of the above, we are unable to send our mobile units into our communities today, collect goods to sell in our charity shop or collect animals from schools for sterilisation.”

She says they apologise to their mobile clinic beneficiaries for this unexpected disruption of services and will do everything they can to be back on the road soon.
