Four people were injured when a taxi and car crashed and drove into a concrete pillar, causing the balcony above the pillar to collapse on the corner of Main and Wilson roads in Wynberg on Wednesday morning.

ER24 paramedics, with Metro and Life Healthcare, arrived on the scene at about 07:05 to find the taxi and car next to the side of the road. A balcony that had stood over the pavement lay crumbled below, with rubble lying in the street.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, says a woman who had been standing on the balcony at the time had sustained moderate injuries.

“Three women from the taxi sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. The patients were treated for their injuries and were later transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further care.

“Both the drivers of the car and taxi escaped injury,” he says.
