A local organisation honoured victims of abuse, rape and violence at an event on Sunday.

Hosted by the Mitchell’s Plain Crisis Forum at Imperial Primary School, the inaugural White Sunday event was aimed at acknowledging and remembering victims and survivors of abuse, rape and murder.

Although a few hundred short of their 500 people target, the hall was filled with banners and T-shirts in memory of one of the most recent victims, murdered Stacha Arends.

The organisation was started earlier this year in her honour.

Joanie Fredericks of the forum said previously that the organisation was designed in a way that it could be accessible to the entire Mitchell’s Plain (“Forum to become ‘recognised voice’ for crimes against kids”, People’s Post, 18 April).

The forum members are focused on action and have already proved their metal in other initiatives, she says.
