Beach Rd redone in sections

2017-11-21 06:00

Work to resurface Beach Road in Sea Point is underway.

The work, which will take place between Worcester and Queens roads, started on Tuesday. The project should be completed by the end of April, weather permitting, at a cost of R12.8m.

The roadworks will be halted during the builders’ holiday period from 15 December to 7 January.

The resurfacing work is scheduled to take place from 09:00 to 16:30 during the week and on Saturdays. No work will be done on Sundays unless emergency works are needed.

Construction will be in half carriageway widths, except for the section between Cassel and Solomons roads which will be closed for two days.

However, the affected section will be open to traffic after 16:30 on the days that work takes place.

The available parking bays will be reduced during construction. Local access will be given to residents and business owners, but this may be suspended for short periods during the construction process.

Permanent lane closures will be erected on Beach Road between Queens Road and the swimming pool to allow for the demolition, reconstruction and curing of the new concrete pavement in that section, but the City of Cape Town will warn the public when this happens.

“We advise residents to please use the MyCiTi bus service during the construction period, as the number of available parking bays will be reduced. I also urge residents not to park anywhere near the construction zones. Once completed, road users will benefit from a great driving experience and congestion will be reduced on one of Cape Town’s most popular and scenic roads,” says the Mayco member (North) Suzette Little.
