Learners of Islamia Primary School in Lansdowne received a special visit from Mrs South Africa finalist Merlin Norman last week.

The visit comes after Mpact Recycling partnered with the Mrs South Africa pageant for the third consecutive year.

Through the partnership with the recycling company, the top 25 Mrs South Africa finalists are required to visit their selected schools and communities to create recycling awareness and educate the public on the importance of preserving the environment.

One of the company’s programmes allows schools and communities to raise funds by getting paid for their collected recyclables, whilst teaching environmental awareness, responsibility and sustainability.

“It was such a rich experience for me to engage in the recycling awareness campaign. My task was to reinforce the importance of recycling to combat the negative environmental impact of increasing waste in landfills. I was so touched to be treated to a performance from the learners in return,” says Norman.
