Since inception in 1989 a local betting organisation has become a significant role-player in its community. Hollywood Bets made their goals to help uplift the locals and to empower them a reality by running various programmes. Currently Jireh in Beacon Valley offers an educare programme, a programme for young mothers called Scarlet and a programme aimed specifically at men called Fathers and Sons. They also care for seniors in their community and provide aftercare for children.Families who are struggling and living in poverty can come to them for assistance. Parents and children alike are given educational and recreational opportunities at the Jireh Centre. Their mission is to help improve parent/child relationships. Team members from the Beacon Valley Hollywood Bets branch visited the centre to hand over a new double-door fridge.Janice Erasmus, director at Jireh, thanked them for the assistance. “The fridge will help us to store bigger quantities of food for our centre. It will help us to keep our vegetables fresh for longer and will allow us to plan meals better,” she says.
