Beware muggers

Kirstenhof police are urging child minders to be extra vigilant when going for their afternoon stroll with the kids as the area gets quiet at times and criminals take advantage.

Kirstenhof police spokesperson Sergeant Diedre Solomon warns muggings are one of the common crimes that unaware people fall prey to on the street.

“Look around you and be aware of your surroundings. Remember an area is not safe just because you are familiar with it.

“Maybe form a nanny walking club in the morning as to not walk alone,” she warns.

Solomon offers these tips to keep child minders and kids safe:

. Carry your bag around the neck across the body.

. If you notice a pedestrian following you, go to the nearest busy area and call the police.

. Carry money or phone cards for emergency phone calls.

. Hide your cellphone and don’t walk around talking on your mobile as it distracts you from what is going on around you.
