Beware of thieves who look into your car

Steenberg police are urging members of the community to be vigilant of criminals who roam the streets and break into cars.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says motorists should never keep valuables in their cars that are visible from the outside.

“We are urging the community to place all valuables in the boot of their cars. Never pick up strangers as there are people who use this method to rob. Do not use your cellphone while driving as this will distract your attention and it is also unlawful. Park your car where it is safe and where there is sufficient light. Be vigilant when coming home, especially at night, when you must open the garage. Look around to see that everything is safe,” he says.
