Members of the Kensington Community Policing Forum (CPF) are warning residents about the presence of a well-known gang of thieves in the area.

This gang is reportedly operating during the early hours of the day as two men go around claiming to be electricity inspectors. They allegedly use forceful methods to get into homes.

These people, mainly men, portray themselves as electricity inspectors, which they are not. They wear bibs.

In a statement CPF members say residents should be alert at all times and should not open their gates or doors to anyone they do not know.

The suspects use different vehicles. According to the statement, residents should be especially careful of a white Hyundai H1 and a grey double-cab bakkie as the thieves have been seen in those.

They warn: “Should you see suspicious-looking vehicles or people, irrespective of race, you are urged to call Kensington police on 021 594 7020 or 10111.”

The presence of these thieves has caused a stir on social media, with residents from around Kensington warning about them and confirming to have spotted them in their area.

Kevin Alexander, an anti-crime activist in the area, posted that the Isuzu bakkie with a false number plate had been seen at different houses in Kensington.

“They were spotted near the corner of 10th Avenue and Ventura Street.”

He claims the thieves jumped over fence and took photos of a house. It looked like a third person was already in the yard. They pretended to be working.
