Indoni Dance Academy and partners will present a new production at the Artscape Theatre called Beyond on Sunday 25 August. With performances – and the grand finale – woven together and directed by Indoni Dance Academy artistic director, Sbonakaliso Ndaba said Beyond highlights the creativity, diversity and the sheer joy of breaking down the silos, going beyond ourselves, and coming together in dance.Beyond today is tomorrow with all its possibilities, and the start of a powerful dance collective. In a show of strength and unity, Beyond features performances by over 120 dancers from the Indoni Dance Academy, Dance Theatre Africa, Figure of 8, Jika Madinga, Unmute, Nqaba, Janine Booysens, Alexander Sinton High, Jazzart and Is’thatha. Each company has also chosen dancers from their outreach groups to guide them on the path to a future in dance. Individual works are choreographed by each company. Beyond takes young dancers from these groups and affords them practical experience to the process, dedication and the hours of rehearsal required. They will have the opportunity to work alongside their role models within their own company, and also the leading dancers, choreographers and trainers of all the companies involved. It promises to transport audiences on a journey into the uniqueness of current African contemporary dance in South Africa. Audiences will experience South Africa’s richness and catch a glimpse of its bright, exciting future. The Indoni Academy was established in 2014 with the vision to become a world-class, sustainable performing arts academy for talented youth.V Shows will run at 15:00 and 18:00, and tickets cost R100 per person, R50 for students and are available through Computicket.
