Officers of Philippi Police Station responded swiftly after a nine-year-old girl went missing from her home in Hallans Walk, Hanover Park on Wednesday.

The officers, residents and representatives of various community-based structures, eagerly continued their search for Aqeela van der Westhuizen throughout the day and spread the word of her disappearance to surrounding areas.

After hours of searching, the girl was found in Renoster Walk, Manenberg.

Acting station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Dawood Laing says he is grateful to all stakeholders involved in their unselfish contribution by walking from door to door, doing inquiries and searching various premises throughout the day.

According to police, information was followed up swiftly which led to finding Aqeela unharmed at her sister’s home.

Both the girl and her family are currently receiving counselling.

Philippi police urge parents to always be aware of the whereabouts of their children.
