A local community worker chose to honour murdered Stacha Arends instead of celebrating her own birthday on Monday last week.

Tersia Harris, a member of the Mitchell’s Plain Crisis Forum (MPCF), shared her birthday wish, calling on people to join her for a special tribute in Tafelsig to the girl who was killed in March.

“On Monday 28 August I will be celebrating my birthday. But I choose to commemorate an angel that through her horrific ordeal made it possible for us to be together, Stacha Arends. Thus I am inviting all my family to a special unveiling ceremony I will be hosting at Sandys place in Matroosberg at 15:00,” she wrote.

As part of this she celebrated with some of the residents.

Guests were asked to wear black and denim. Some also wore T-shirts with Stacha’s photo on it.

Joanie Fredericks, chairperson of the MPCF, tells People’s Post: “One of our members, who turned 29 years old, chose to spend her birthday by buying and donating a plaque for Stacha. For MPCF it was a time of celebrating the 11 years that Stacha spent on earth and the immense human being she was to continue inspiring communities to act against violence and bringing so many different people together.”
