Silverstream sewerage pump station was the scene of a gruesome discovery last Monday.

The body of a newborn baby was discovered by a worker while busy cleaning one of the tanks.
According to Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, police divers were called to the sewerage pump station to remove the body.

“The body will be sent for a DNA test and to determine whether the infant was alive at birth.

“The investigation will look into who knew about a pregnancy or who was pregnant and cannot give an account of the birth of a child,” says Bennett

Local officers have opened a case of concealment of birth for investigation, says Bennett.

V Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to call Manenberg Police Station on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
