Associated Seniors, a Plumstead-based club for elderly people, is appealing to interested individuals to start planning for the upcoming day-long bus trip to GrandWest.

The club will have the trip to GrandWest via Grabouw and Theewaterkloof Dam to Root44 on Saturday 16 September. Tickets are already available.

According to Ursula Schenker, the organiser, the idea is to take the elderly to Orchard Restaurant in Grabouw before enjoying the view of the Theewaterkloof Dam, giving them “a tangible idea of where our water comes from”.

They will then, continue through the Franschhoek Mountains to Root44, a huge flea market with entertainment and eats for everyone.

This trip is among their special annual trips which include Kirstenbosch Gardens, Hout Bay and Cape Point via Chapmans Peak Drive where oldies have an opportunity to visit Seal Island.

Among other things the club organises getaways for pensioners, giving them time to be away from their daily lives at their designated spaces.

The club believes that whether an elderly person is still with their family or at an old age home, they deserve a break and an opportunity to meet and socialise with people her age at a comfortable and undisturbed environment.

The club also have a pending out of the country trip, which is likely to be to Livingstone Airport in Zambia.

Details of all the events will be announced in due time.

Schenker says the earlier they plan the better. She says bookings are crucial considering that most pensioners need to budget and save up for the trips.

V Tickets for the trip cost R150 and are limited to 60 seats. Call Ursula Schenker on 021 761 8774 or 078 382 4668.
